I started my martial arts not with karate but boxing at this time I was just 14years old. I continued this for the next 4 years. In this time I had 24 fights and only lost 2. I enjoyed boxing a lot, but as I got older I wanted something more.
I was introduced to karate by a friend and decided this was what I was looking for, a real challenge! I trained in Kyokushinkai karate for the next 4years reaching the level of 4th kyu. In this time I trained at summer camps, and did semi and full contact tournaments, but most of all I learnt self-discipline and control, was what was lacking in boxing, as I would often go too far with sparring partners.
After this I took a year out to concentrate on my working life and home life, but during this time I tried other arts such as Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, kickboxing and a small amount of judo. All f these arts had something to offer but for me karate would be my foundation. After this break I found Sensei Brian Daneen, and this where I saw Sensei Hardy. The training was really hard, but this was what I was looking for, and here I passed my Dan Grade. For the next few years I progressed in experience having many club fights and with Sensei Hardy in the club the fighting was very tough.
Then Sensei Hardy ask if I could come and train at his club. I could honestly say I jumped at the chance, as the standard would be at the highest level. I continued to instruct with Sensei Hardy, to this date this has been the most enjoyable experience of my martial arts. I would like to say thank you to Sensei Hardy for this, and a big thank you to all the students for your effort and continued training.
