Syllabus

Association

The Kyoikenkai Karate Club is approved by the British Karate Association. We follow high standards e.g. staffing, training, facilities, conduct and insurance.

Coaching Syllabus

We have a full syllabus of what is needed to learn each of the grades. There are clearly written instructions given to each student prior to the grading. Grading happens about 3 or 4 times per year. This is based on set moves (Kata) and some fighting (Kumite).

Words Used

Japanese words are used to describe the moves. These are learnt as you progress. There is a partial list here in the glossary.

Gradings and belts

When you join the club, you start wearing an ungraded kyu white belt, and work up to black belt. Coaching for each grade takes about 4months.
